Great way to spend a sunday afternoon. Marty Erickson was very entertaining, funny, and a very good tuba player. Exceeded our expectations! The San Jose Wind Symphony was great, too!Written on Feb 13 2012

My son plays Trombone, so this big brass was something he really wanted to see and so did I, gave me goose bumps. The music performed by the SJWS is superb. I wish everyone could see this wonderful group of performers at least once.Written on Feb 16 2012

First time to attend a SJ Wind Symphony concert- musicians were really good (even though some have/had other careers). Music was interesting and diverse; McAfee Center was a great venue. Mr. Erickson was a thoroughly pleasant, as well as top-notch tuba player- I enjoyed this concert!Written on Feb 13 2012

San Jose Wind Symphony (SJWS) was founded in 1958 at San Jose City College by conductor emeritus Darrell Johnston. The group has become one of the finest community bands in the country, drawing players from a diverse assortment of backgrounds and professions.
Over the years, SJWS has been invited to numerous musical events, including the Music Education National Conference in Anaheim, the California Music Educators Association in San Jose, and the Association of Concert Bands convention in Salinas. Many well-known artists have performed with SJWS, including Maynard Ferguson, Frederick Fennell, Keith Brion, Paul Horn, Col. Arnold Gabriel and the New York Woodwind Quintet.
In 1991, SJWS was invited by the Tourism Board of Switzerland to help celebrate Switzerland's 700th anniversary in Luzern. In 1997, the band performed by invitation at the 1997 World Association for Symphonic Bands and Ensembles (WASBE) Conference in Schladming, Austria.
