Kick off your Sunday shoes at the high-energy pop musical Footloose, based on the hit 1984 movie featuring Kevin Bacon and Sarah Jessica Parker. A hit on Broadway and London's West End, it tells the story of Ren McCormack, a big-city teen who finds himself out of place in a rural town where dancing has been outlawed. As he tries to carve out a place for himself, he sets off a revolution in the town as the younger generation rebels against the strict rules of the religious authorities. As performed by the talented youth performers of Desert Stages Theatre, ages 12-19, you'll hear all the chart-topping songs from the film, including "Almost Paradise," "Holding Out for a Hero" and "Let's Hear It for the Boy," plus new material written for the stage. This show presents an important story but it really didn't come together until after intermission. All of the seats in this theatre have good visibility but the last row on the sides has no leg room. Also, this theatre is very fond of their fog machine as all of the recent productions have this fog! I cannot figure out why as it does not add to the production but is an irritant.
