Banjo Musician Tony Furtado with Danny Barnes
Innovative Banjo Player Tony Furtado With Danny Barnes
Tony Furtado is an indie rock dream. He's been on the road for almost 20 years and is gregarious, engaging and entertaining, both on and off stage. He's a genius with the banjo and slide guitar who has created his own unique hybrid of Americana and indie rock. He owns the stage wherever he goes, mixing stories of his travels with his energetic and skilled musicianship. Widely regarded as one of the most innovative and genre-bending artists of his craft, Barnes incorporates his eclectic musical inspirations into a progressive approach to a traditional instrument. He is well-versed in the history of the bluegrass, country, and folk music from which the banjo's reputation was born, but his inventive take on the instrument is what truly separates him from other musicians. He is a master at traditional forms of music, but mixes it up by using his banjo to play non-traditional music like rock, fusion, and jazz with electronic percussion and loop elements. He will perform live at The Triple Door with banjo and guitar player Danny Barnes, of the Bad Livers.

Cassandra Wilson is best known as a jazz singer and instrumentalist, but she has broken out of the traditional confines of the genre to include elements of blues, country and folk into her music. She draws on influences ranging from Miles Davis and Hank Williams to Joni Mitchell and Robert Johnson. In addition to her two Grammys, Wilson has won the Django D'Or and The Edison Music Award, and been recognized with a marker on the Mississippi Blues Trail. She also performed one of the leading roles in Wynton Marsalis' Blood on the Fields, the first jazz work to receive a Pulitzer Prize. Learn More
