A little-known American hero steps into the spotlight in Jeanne Sakata's eloquent one man show, Hold These Truths. The "Truths," of course, are the civil rights proclaimed in the Declaration of Independence and later enshrined in the Constitution. The man doing the holding -- despite enormous pressures from his own government -- is one Gordon Hirabayashi. When the government decides to mass incarcerate all people of Japanese ancestry on the West Coast, it is Hirabayashi, a college student and conscientious objector, who decides to fight for the rights of all Americans. Join him on his journey toward a greater understanding of America's triumphs and failings. Joel de la Fuente ( Law & Order: Special Victims Unit) stars in this absorbing historical portrayal. This didn't end up being what I expect. It was billed as a Comedy/Drama. I saw very few things that were funny about it. The ending seems abupt and left us wondering what could have possibility happened other than the mom ending up in jail.
This show contains mild adult language and some violence. It is recommended for those age 14 or older.
This show’s running time is one hour and 30 minutes, without intermission.
