One of the most infamous figures in American history -- Lizzie Borden -- comes to the stage in the innovative drama Blood Relations. Written by Sharon Pollock, one of Canada's premier playwrights, this psychological murder mystery delves into the facts and speculation surrounding the unsolved 1892 double murder of Andrew and Abby Borden. Their daughter Lizzie was tried and acquitted for the murders -- but not before becoming the country's first tabloid celebrity. This dreamlike play within a play takes place ten years after the trial, as Lizzie and her actress friend reenact the various roles from the night of the murders, and the truth of that night begins to come into focus. SUMMARY: Overall, a good show and worth seeing at a discounted ticket price.
I've heard the name of this musical in the past, but knew nothing about it other than it existed so going into this show I had no idea what to expect. The production of this musical was really good. The space is very intimate which works well for a show that partially takes space in a cramped space. The actors all did a great job, but I just didn't like some of the music and that is an issue with the show, not the production. Also, as can happen with stories based on true events, there seems to be a lot that is left unresolved or unaddressed at the end.
