In just eight short years, Scottish singer-songwriter Sandi Thom has sold over one million albums, been nominated for a Brit Award and won both Album of the Year at the Scottish Music Awards and the Ivor Novello Award for Excellence in Songwriting. Drawing praise from fans and critics alike (UK's The Times recently hailed Thom as "exquisite" and The Huffington Post praised her "fierce and honest" songwriting), Sandi Thom is known for her powerful, take-no-prisoners vocals and classic blues-rock sound. Now Thom's taking bringing her act to The Triple Door, hot on the heels of her latest album, Flesh and Blood, which features collaborations from The Black Crowes, The Rolling Stones' Bobby Keys and even the legendary Buffy Sainte-Marie. We attended the Makana concert on November 7, 2013. It was rainy and windy outside but inside the audience was transported to heavenly Hawaii.
Makana has incredible talent. He played traditional Hawaiian Slack Key along with the new cuts from his current album. It seemed that I was hearing the traditional songs /music for the first time because of the depth of his music and voice. He played the piano, ukulele and shared lots of talk story . It was the very best concert I've been to in years and I have a new favorite Slack Key artist...Makana!
The Benaroyal Hall is a wonderful venue. We sat in the back but the acoustics and line of vision were perfect .
This performance does not include the Seattle Symphony.
