Singer-songwriter Mark Kozelek, formerly of '90s indie favorites Red House Painters, comes to Seattle. Even if you're not an expert on the indie scene, you've probably seen Kozelek before -- he co-starred as Larry Fellows, the bassist for the fictional band Stillwater in Cameron Crowe's Almost Famous
. On stage, this expressive musician captivates audiences with the emotional intensity of his performance. Baring his soul with songs that tell tales of pain, despair and loss, Kozelek draws in his audience and takes them on a haunting journey that is bittersweet in its sadness and compelling in its honesty. After a record label merger left the Red House Painters' latest album on the shelf, Kozelek recorded some solo albums and formed the band Sun Kil Moon with former Red House Painters members and other musicians, including drummer Tim Mooney of American Music Club. In addition to his role in Almost Famous
, Kozelek performed Sun Kil Moon's song "Lily and Parrots" live in the Steve Martin film Shopgirl
, in which he played a musician who befriends and mentors Jason Schwartzman's character.
