Reviews & Ratings
British Bluesman Matt Schofield is widely regarded as one of the most distinctive and innovative guitarists to have emerged on the world scene for several generations. He is rated in the top ten British blues guitarists of all time (Guitar & Bass Magazine) putting him in the company of such iconic names as Eric Clapton and Peter Green. He was crowned Blues Guitarist of the Year and Album of the Year in the 2010 British Blues Awards.
He scored another distinction recently in joining such famous names as Buddy Guy, Eric Johnson, Joe Bonamassa and Robben Ford, who have DVDs produced by the world’s largest music print publisher, the US-based Hal Leonard organisation. Schofield is one of the few Brits ever to have appeared on the Hal Leonard imprint.
In his relatively short career (he is just 32), Schofield’s prowess as a guitarist has taken his band to 22 countries and brought him high praise in the Penguin Book of Blues Recordings as one of only two living British artists in recording history to gain a maximum four-star rating.
In 2010 he completed a nine week tour of North America, which took him the length of the western seaboard, to Arizona and Texas, through the north east, the major Canadian Festivals, and through the northern states of the US culminating with a TV-filmed show at the Telluride Blues festival. In Feb 11 he played at the innaugural Mahindra Mumbai Blues Festival alongside Buddy Guy, Shemekia Copeland and Jonny Lang.
Schofield‘s powerful mix of blues, rock and New Orleans funk is unlike anything else on the block. His band comprises long-term compatriot Jonny Henderson (Hammond organ & left-hand bass) and recent recruit Kevin Hayes on drums (formerly Robert Cray and with a long list recording credits including Johh Lee Hooker, BB King, Albert Collins and Van Morrison).
Other projects – Matt has produced three highly acclaimed albums for Ian Siegal, 2005’s Meat & Potatoes, 2007’s _Swagger _and his November 2009 release, Broadside, which is MOJO magazine’s Blues Album of 09.
