The Mingus Dynasty Celebrates the Genius of Charles Mingus
When jazz master Charles Mingus died in 1979, his wife organized Mingus Dynasty, an ensemble dedicated to promoting his work as a composer. Originally limited to musicians who had personally worked with Mingus, the band has since expanded its own boundaries, becoming a celebrated incubator of new musical talent, while maintaining its role as a faithful tribute to a true musical legend. After Mingus's death, it was suggested that, since he had no living equal as a bass player, no one had the requisite skill to play the 300-odd pieces he composed. For 30 years, Mingus Dynasty has been demolishing that myth, performing his works with all the polish, invention, and excitement of the iconoclastic genius who wrote them. Reacquaint yourself with all jazz has been in the past -- and all it can be in the future -- with the nimble, expert players of the Mingus Dynasty!

There is a parking garage literally RIGHT next to the venue. I don't recall the cost sadly (average for the area I think), but I will say it was very well guarded and if you do us it, remember to take your ticket with you as it is your key for elevator use! Also Parking technically begins on the 3rd level.Dirty Bourbon River Show travel • Aug 19 2014 star this tip starred
