This little daytrip entailed far more than expected. We headed out a little late due to two parties failing to show up but after that all was great. This trip's success rides on the shoulder of the guides/driver's preparedness and knowledge. After leaving Seattle, we stopped briefly in Puyallup for bathroom breaks and my husband and I picked up some lunch at Fred Meyer. From there Joe continued to fill our heads with interesting tidbits about the area and pointed out a lot of history. Fortunately the weather cooperated and we made it to Longmire in about two hours. DEFINITELY prepare for snow and temps as we did a 1 mile little hike but over snow and ice, I wouldn't recommend tennis shoes. It was about 35 degrees and mostly sunny. We stooped several times along the way to Paradise to take in some amazing vistas and saw Christine Falls. Joe was fully prepared for us when reaching Paradise. He had binoculars, extra gloves, snow shoes, sleds, snow pants all provided by him personally. We tried out the snow shoes and crashed on the sled hills a few times as well. We finished up the day seeing a beautiful sunset with Joe providing hot cocoa, warm apple cider, and candy bars. We even saw some grazing elk on the way home. I would not recommend this to anyone not comfortable getting out and doing some tricky walking in the winter and definitely bring plenty of cold weather gear. When booking your trip, I highly encourage you to arrange a trip with Joe. He was the best tour guide we've had to date.Written on Feb 18 2012
