Contemporary slang meets 17th-century farce in The School for Lies. Adapted from Molière's The Misanthrope, playwright David Ives (Venus in Fur, All in the Timing) transforms Molière's classic into a modern satire told entirely through verse. The result is a delightfully incongruous comedy of manners that lets you peer inside the Parisian salon of Celimene, a young widow with a sharp tongue and plenty of suitors. Teresa Thuman and Ken Michels co-direct this Center Theatre production, in which a saucy siren finally meets her misanthropic match. Learn More
The 5th Avenue Theatre presents some of the greatest love songs ever created for Broadway. We’ll sing about new love, old love, young love, love gone awry, and love that is here to stay.
This 90-minute love-fest features some your favorite 5th Avenue singers including Shelly Burch (Tommy Tune’s Nine_), Nick Garrison (Cabaret_), Kirsten Helland (Oklahoma!), Brandon O’Neill (A Christmas Story_), and Sarah Rudinoff (_On the Town). Also appearing are Broadway special guests Mimi Hines (Funny Girl) and Kim Huber (Beauty and the Beast).
You’ll hear such songs as “Some Enchanted Evening” (South Pacific_), “Maria” (West Side Story_), and “Seasons of Love” (Rent), plus other classics by Stephen Sondheim, Andrew Lloyd Weber, Cole Porter and more. The performers will be accompanied by a 30-piece onstage orchestra, conducted by 5th Avenue’s own Ian Eisendrath.
