Reviews & Ratings
The 44's are a Los Angeles-based band whose blues-roots-rock music make them one the brightest rising stars on the American blues roots scene. The raw rough and tough sounds generated by these four expert musicians during live demands to be heard by blues music fans worldwide. They evidence a genuine gift for creating blues in the moment while at the same time showing loyalty to a remarkable blues and R&B tradition that goes back decades through the James Harman Band and the Red Devils to storied greats like Howlin' Wolf, Albert Collins, and Muddy Waters. They've become a favorite band of club and festival crowds across North America.
They play vintage instruments and channel a blues style of days past while pushing the limits of their raw talent and culture. Johnny Main grounds his outstanding singing and guitar playing in real experience—his talent's as honest as the day is long. Tex Nakamura has forged his own stirring voice from studying Little Walter and other legendary harmonica mentors. Drummer J. R. Lozano, behind his Vintage Ludwig Kit, is as solid as any you'll hear, calibrating rhythmic flow with alertness and intelligence. For their one-of-a-kind blues, The 44's successfully mine the tension.
As a bandleader, frontman or featured side man, James has appeared with The Royals, The Nightsticks, Two Scoops Combo, Junkyard Jane, Lil' Bill and the Bluenotes, Jr. Cadillac, The Fabulous Wailers, David Vest and the Texas Horns, Nick Vigarino, Becki Sue & Her Big Rockin Daddies and national touring acts Sista' Monica and Rockin' Jake.
James has received multiple nominations for best horn, best harmonica, best male vocalist, best band and performer of the year from the Washington Blues Society B.B. Awards and the Cascade Blues Association Muddy Awards.
After seven years fronting Becki Sue & Her Big Rockin' Daddies that included appearances at the IBC in Memphis, The Blues Heritage Festival in Helena Arkansas, Clarksdale Mississippi, The legendary Yale in Vancouver B.C. The San Felipe Blues Festival in San Felipe Mexico The Magic City Blues Festival in Missoula Montana, and every major Blues Festival in the NW he has formed and leads this high-energy powerhouse blues band that will be a force to be reckoned with in the near future for the NW blues scene. Jim describes his band as Texas Roadhouse Blues, Juke Joint Boogie Woogie, and real live party music.
