Black Comedy follows impoverished sculptor Brindsley Miller as he tries to impress his debutante fiancée, her father, an art collector and an eccentric neighbor whose expensive furniture Miller has stolen for the night. A short fuse tumbles the evening into darkness -- and hysterical comedy -- in this 1965 one-act farce written by premier English screenwriter and playwright Peter Shaffer (Amadeus). This will be Strawberry Theatre Workshop's last performance in their longtime home venue of Erickson Theatre Off Broadway before moving into a community arts center in construction on 12th Avenue. I liked the play and the performers are STAND OUT WONDERFUL. But the play is too long and should really be cut after the play gets to off-Broadway. The last 25 minutes of the show push it too long and with no intermission and no real dramatic arc, it might benefit from being true at 75 minutes tops.
