I know you really don't want to know what some random 54 yr old white dude thought of this seminal piece of Black Feminist agitprop from the seventies. But to me, a more important question is whether this now-classic stills packs any wallop, now that it's themes of sexual and racial injustice, date rape, and abortion are pretty much de rigueur in modern narrative. These nonequity performers give it their all, and even though they could use some lessons in projection, and how to play to the back row instead of the front row, by the dramatic conclusion there was not a single person in the audience who was not held in the sway of the power of this work. The sound is often a bit difficult to hear, especially when the director unwisely chooses to play music over some of the early monologues, and the theater has a pretty sharp incline, so try to sit up close.

I went to see this show, because I saw it a long, long, time ago back in the 80"s. I thought it was fantastic then and I think it is fantastic now. In fact I played the girl who told off her boyfriend and threw the plant at him for my school. I even put on a version of the show with girls from the high school I teach. I applaud the ladies and I understand all their pain. Excellent performance.

Written on 7/16--Since by first comment, I can't help but to follow up on my previous comment. Not only did Goldstar follow-up and apologize about the my experience of not seeing this performance, so has the ticket supplier. I truly appreciate their efforts and can't help but to change my rating.

Written on 7/13--My rating is based on my experience this past Saturday. I have never paid to see a play and upon arriving I am told, "Come back next weekend and be sure to arrive 30 minutes early to make sure you have seat because we do not have anymore seats tonight." After spending 45 minutes on the freeway, I was not happy

I attended the event with two of my sisters. The theater is a nice size and was so booked that others had to sit on chairs onstage (but it seemed it was expected since they already had chairs on the sides for this). I also think it was planned that way since there was audience interaction at times. But how was the event? Rare is it to attend a play where each actor/actress captivates me. Yes, we all have favorites and some stand out more than others, but I was impressed with all the women who performed. When there was laughter it was genuine and heartfelt, when there were tears it was raw and emotional. No matter who was in the audience, male or female, we could relate with these women; we could share their joy and their pain. Also, there wasn't a single moment where the audience wasn't focused on what was occurring. Incredible choreography, outstanding delivery and great producing has left me eager to see what else this theater will bring me. I'm sure I speak for everyone when I say the performance left us with wide eyes and mouths hung open while exclaiming, "Wow!"
