Don't waste your time or money. This show was very bad. The singer had no emotional connections to the songs and misunderstood how to sing the Blues. She didn't bring any depth to the songs she sang. She just sang the songs. The playfullness, saddness, down and out, sexiness that the songs demand was missing every step of the way.

I adore events at the Whitefire Theatre, Ms. Ruby Hayes singing Bessie Smith however, seemed to lack the "passion" in her voice needed for the Blues of Bessie Smith.
The Musicians were OFF THE CHARTS and just hit the notes for me. The appearance of Linda Hopkins at the venue was as equally awesome as the Musicians.

We agree with the last review. We were disappointed as Bessie Smith had so much passion in her songs and none of it came through in what Ruby Hayes sang. We do like the small venue and we like the concept of this one woman show, Ruby just didn't bring it! Sorry Ruby!!
