Tony Kushner's Adaptation of 17th Century Play The Illusion
- Full Price:
- $25.00
- Our Price:
- $10.00
With this modern reinvention, Tony Kushner (Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright of Angels in America) triumphantly reinvents L'illusion Comique,, the fascinating, theatrical fairy-tale first told by French classical dramatist Pierre Corneille more than 370 years ago. A father, on a mission to reunite with his estranged son, enlists the services of a powerful sorcerer who conjures up provocative images from the young man's life. The father is led deep into a maze of romance, intrigue, conspiracy, and murder. But just how much of it is true? Witty and profound, timely and transcendent, The Illusion weaves reality and truth with the magic of the theater. Learn More

This work is one of the greatest in modern theatre, and it's pretty rare that the two plays are done in rep. I'm so glad that Forum decided to do both, because it's an incredible opportunity. The show is set in the 1980s, but the themes and messages still resonate with today's audiences. It is beautifully acted for the most part (I didn't like one of the actors, but his style isn't my taste) and the minimalistic set really makes you focus on the characters and what they are saying. Well done, Forum. I'll be back next week for "Perestroika."Written on Nov 13 2009

Make time in your schedule to attend this production. The touching intersection of these characters' lives will move you in a way that transcends the political 80s themes (although these themes are certainly still relevant). A strong cast, with exceptional performances by Karl Miller and Alexander Strain, make this a very satisfying evening of theatre...and Kushner's wonderful writing never fails to astound.Written on Oct 12 2009

The play is definitely for an adult audience (much older than 16 years old). There is full-frontal nudity and stimulation of male sex, so you can not go if you are easily offended. With that said, the play was excellent. The actors were unbelievable and I would highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys plays. It was the best play that I have seen and the Round House Theatre production definitely proved why the play won the Tony. Bravo!Written on Oct 12 2009

Description
Set in Reagan-Era New York City, Angels in America is Tony Kushner’s two-part epic on national themes, the AIDS crisis, and spiritual and political morality. Forum presents the play that affected an entire generation for the current 2009 American landscape. A colorful array of characters become intertwined as they grapple with identity, community, guilt, intimacy and forgiveness. At once harrowing and uproarious, Angels in America is a fiercely theatrical modern morality play and a landmark of the American stage.
