Round House's Silver Spring Series by Happenstance Theater presents the all-new Cabaret Macabre, back for a second season after a sold-out run last year. Inspired by the comically macabre drawings, captions, and verse of author Edward Gorey and featuring Victorian nightmares, dangerous croquet and ill-fated twins, Cabaret Macabre is accompanied by live melodramatic music and Happenstance Theater's witty, visual theatrical collage. It's a Dickensian romp through the damp, cobbled alleys of poetry, variety and song, and the perfect way to celebrate the Halloween season. The cast features Mark Jaster, Sabrina Mandell, Karen Hansen, Matthew Pauli, Esther Williamson and Gwen Grastorf.

Tony Kushner's Adaptation of 17th Century Play The Illusion

Full Price:

Our Price:
$10.00

With this modern reinvention, Tony Kushner (Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright of Angels in America) triumphantly reinvents L'illusion Comique,, the fascinating, theatrical fairy-tale first told by French classical dramatist Pierre Corneille more than 370 years ago. A father, on a mission to reunite with his estranged son, enlists the services of a powerful sorcerer who conjures up provocative images from the young man's life. The father is led deep into a maze of romance, intrigue, conspiracy, and murder. But just how much of it is true? Witty and profound, timely and transcendent, The Illusion weaves reality and truth with the magic of the theater. Learn More

Some cute moments and clever skits but overall I thought the pace was a bit slow and overall it was just okay.

Although the performers were good and quite talented, the material was lacking. We were expecting something a bit more dark (well, macabre)--as one of my friends said, it was more performance art. Get these performers better material--they deserve it.

The show was very good. We all really liked it a lot.
The 3 star rating is for the venue. Terrible service at the Round House Theatre. It was general admission seating and the show was sold out. We got there in time for the show, but there were no seats next to each other for my party of three. The staff was completely rude and unhelpful in getting us seats. They told us there were people that had purchased tickets that were coming in late (we were on time) and therefore the seats up front needed to be reserved for those late people and we'd just have to sit separately. After some time, they finally acquiesced and let us in those front seats together.
