Mozart's whimsical opera The Magic Flute springs to life via the Washington National Opera and vivid, colorful sets and costumes from Japanese-American artist Jun Kaneko. This adventure-filled opera begins as the Queen of the Night sends the brave Prince Tamino on a quest to rescue her daughter from an evil sorcerer. Accompanied by the clumsy and comical birdcatcher Papageno, Tamino braves all obstacles to find the princess and defeat the sorcerer, only to find that all is not what it seems. Tamino's adventure is marked by dramatic plot twists as trickery and betrayals are revealed, and the true villain emerges. This production is sung in English with projected English titles. Learn More

Bel Cantanti has outdone itself once again. It performed this holiday classic in an astoundingly beautiful and decorous manner, filling the intimate Randolph Road Theater with many hyper-talented voices and great costumes, bringing off the fun-filled story of "The Bat" joke retaliation with flair and panache. "Adele" and "Rosalinde" especially wowed the thoroughly entertained nearly full house audience. Go see the performances on 12/14/ and 12/15, if you can get a ticket. You'll go away happy and impressed with the talents of a cast of young opera artists.
This performance will be sung in German with English spoken dialogue and projected English supertitles. It will be accompanied by the Bel Cantanti Opera Chamber Orchestra, conducted Dr. Katerina Souvorova.
