With this modern reinvention, Tony Kushner (Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright of Angels in America) triumphantly reinvents L'illusion Comique,, the fascinating, theatrical fairy-tale first told by French classical dramatist Pierre Corneille more than 370 years ago. A father, on a mission to reunite with his estranged son, enlists the services of a powerful sorcerer who conjures up provocative images from the young man's life. The father is led deep into a maze of romance, intrigue, conspiracy, and murder. But just how much of it is true? Witty and profound, timely and transcendent, The Illusion weaves reality and truth with the magic of the theater. Learn More

My husband and I, who haven't seen wonderful storyteller Jon Spellman for about 10 years, were delighted with this performance. The way he interweaves his experiences with Shakespeare's works, including a number of scene recreations, is fascinating. I loved how much he incorporated his daughter's experience of the theaters also.

I definitely recommend this show!

Entertaining evening of stories well accentuated by music. Mr. Spellman provides poignant and funny glimpses of his life which has often had Shakespeare as part of the backdrop. He cleverly interweaves brief speeches and some Shakespearian wordplay. While the production was longer than I had expected, I enjoyed every minute of it. The musicianship was superb and the instruments themselves were gorgeous!

This wasn't a typical Spellman event, so wasn't really what we expected. However, it was certainly one of the most original events we've attended recently, and demonstrated his creativity.
