Tony Kushner's Adaptation of 17th Century Play The Illusion

With this modern reinvention, Tony Kushner (Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright of Angels in America) triumphantly reinvents L'illusion Comique,, the fascinating, theatrical fairy-tale first told by French classical dramatist Pierre Corneille more than 370 years ago. A father, on a mission to reunite with his estranged son, enlists the services of a powerful sorcerer who conjures up provocative images from the young man's life. The father is led deep into a maze of romance, intrigue, conspiracy, and murder. But just how much of it is true? Witty and profound, timely and transcendent, The Illusion weaves reality and truth with the magic of the theater. Learn More

A very honest portrayal of the immigrant experience. Zahra brings forth the issues that are often swept under the rug in such communities, and the dilemmas that second generation youth face. I applaud her ability to frame these issues through humor, and only wish that this sets the stage for some real honest dialogue within the community at large. Great show!

The star had a great singing voice and some clever lines. Some of the material was a bit cruder than I had anticipated -- but not shocking -- and she got some good laughs. I'm glad I went -- but would've appreciated more specific information about the perspective before I went.

It was a thought-provoking, funny, and well-done one woman show. The material was much more controversial than I expected (topics discussed included sex, homosexuality) and I loved that element. Highly recommend it!
