Tony Kushner's Adaptation of 17th Century Play The Illusion
- Full Price:

- Our Price:
- $10.00
With this modern reinvention, Tony Kushner (Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright of Angels in America) triumphantly reinvents L'illusion Comique,, the fascinating, theatrical fairy-tale first told by French classical dramatist Pierre Corneille more than 370 years ago. A father, on a mission to reunite with his estranged son, enlists the services of a powerful sorcerer who conjures up provocative images from the young man's life. The father is led deep into a maze of romance, intrigue, conspiracy, and murder. But just how much of it is true? Witty and profound, timely and transcendent, The Illusion weaves reality and truth with the magic of the theater. Learn More

This play was simply awful. Terrible acting, much worse screenplay. And it was incredibly long, making it even harder to bear.Written on Oct 03 2011
But really it just made no sense. It was historically inaccurate and incredibly prejudicial against the Romanian people. It made them all seem like racist, closed-minded people. It clearly outlines the converse: how incredibly prejudiced and culturally inept the playwright is. Just about every bad stereotype about the romanian people it's in this thing...from gypsies, to eastern european girls marrying americans for passports, to vampires...yes, vampires...proving how historically accurate this play really is...
And the fake accents were terrible as well.
