With this modern reinvention, Tony Kushner (Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright of Angels in America) triumphantly reinvents L'illusion Comique,, the fascinating, theatrical fairy-tale first told by French classical dramatist Pierre Corneille more than 370 years ago. A father, on a mission to reunite with his estranged son, enlists the services of a powerful sorcerer who conjures up provocative images from the young man's life. The father is led deep into a maze of romance, intrigue, conspiracy, and murder. But just how much of it is true? Witty and profound, timely and transcendent, The Illusion weaves reality and truth with the magic of the theater. Learn More

Will sang mostly Sondheim-like songs. I'm not a Sondheim fan, but I did like Merrily We Roll Along, which Will starred in at the Signature Theatre. Last night's show is the first of Will's shows I didn't care for. His performances have been superb in all previous shows, most recently Signature's cabaret.Written on Nov 11 2008
I suggested to Will after a previous multi-artist cabaret in the Silver Spring Round House that the performers should get rid of the water bottles, but he didn't take my advice in last night's show. I found it very annoying for him to have a gulp of liquid that looked like Gaterade between each number. Before bottled water, performers used to get through a complete act without having a drink on-stage.

This show was a great blend of funny and touching songs, and nicely woven together through Will's between-songs patter. He has a versatile voice and performance style that are well-showcased in this show.Written on Nov 11 2008

A little too swish for my dish, but the funny songs were funny and Will Gartshore's voice is a gem.Written on Nov 12 2008

Many cute, fun songs that were performed very well. Some of the more serious songs did not carry as well vocally.Written on Nov 11 2008
