Tony Kushner's Adaptation of 17th Century Play The Illusion

With this modern reinvention, Tony Kushner (Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright of Angels in America) triumphantly reinvents L'illusion Comique,, the fascinating, theatrical fairy-tale first told by French classical dramatist Pierre Corneille more than 370 years ago. A father, on a mission to reunite with his estranged son, enlists the services of a powerful sorcerer who conjures up provocative images from the young man's life. The father is led deep into a maze of romance, intrigue, conspiracy, and murder. But just how much of it is true? Witty and profound, timely and transcendent, The Illusion weaves reality and truth with the magic of the theater. Learn More

excellent show -- one that leaves you thinking long after the fact. Brace yourselves for a horrible revelation, one that I didn't see coming. The top of the second act is bogged down by too much discourse (I think the playwright let the material get away from him a bit here) but, still, the effect of the play is stunning. Forum is an brave, brilliant company & the work produced is consistently challenging and poignant. This is what theater is all about.

This play was thought-inducing, provocative and very well-staged. It is not for the faint of heart and be prepared to think about the horrors of war and how mankind can be cruel and loving at the same time.

Much more powerful than I could have imagined. There was no bad seat in the whole theatre and I love the fact that you can bring in your own food. The actors were superb, I was completely transported.

The show was pretty good - it's a little long at points and some scenes go on far too long but it kept my attention throughout. I wanted to see what was going to happen next and that's usually a sign of a good play.
