A brilliant linguist who studies the loss of world languages faces the potential end of his marriage unless he can find the words to stop his wife from leaving. Meanwhile, his archival assistant is mute with adoration for him, and his newest subjects, an elderly couple who are the last speakers of an obscure language, refuse to utter a word to one another. This magically inventive comedy about communication, love, and Esperanto from Julia Cho was commissioned by Roundabout Theatre Company and developed at the O'Neill National Playwrights Conference. It recently won the 2010 Susan Smith Blackburn Prize.

Tony Kushner's Adaptation of 17th Century Play The Illusion

With this modern reinvention, Tony Kushner (Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright of Angels in America) triumphantly reinvents L'illusion Comique,, the fascinating, theatrical fairy-tale first told by French classical dramatist Pierre Corneille more than 370 years ago. A father, on a mission to reunite with his estranged son, enlists the services of a powerful sorcerer who conjures up provocative images from the young man's life. The father is led deep into a maze of romance, intrigue, conspiracy, and murder. But just how much of it is true? Witty and profound, timely and transcendent, The Illusion weaves reality and truth with the magic of the theater. Learn More

The venue for the play was intimate and it lent itself well to this play, "The Language Archive."The actors were very professional and engaging with the audience and their performances were superb. After, they encouraged a "book club style" discussion afterward to discuss with the audience reactions and thoughts about the play.
