With this modern reinvention, Tony Kushner (Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright of Angels in America) triumphantly reinvents L'illusion Comique,, the fascinating, theatrical fairy-tale first told by French classical dramatist Pierre Corneille more than 370 years ago. A father, on a mission to reunite with his estranged son, enlists the services of a powerful sorcerer who conjures up provocative images from the young man's life. The father is led deep into a maze of romance, intrigue, conspiracy, and murder. But just how much of it is true? Witty and profound, timely and transcendent, The Illusion weaves reality and truth with the magic of the theater. Learn More

An excellent production. The cast, led by Mark Jaster, are clearly the top of the "mime" field of entertainment in the United States. The Round House Theater - Black Box Stage is a superb small venue. The Seven Ages of Mime was just the right kind of production to be performed there. It is my understanding that the show was basically a sell-out, even with at least one extra performance having been added.Written on Jan 22 2007

Quotes & Highlights
- In his solo performances, Piccolo's Trunk, A Fool Named 'O', and The Maestro, he combines live music on unusual instruments and non-instruments, (like the pipe and tabor and the bowed saw), outrageous acrobatics, (like a dive through an impossibly small wooden hoop), and hyper-advanced communication skills with an honest gentle humor that has obliterated many a skeptic's hesitations over mime.
- A "clown extraordinaire and one of the most graceful performers you will ever see on a stage." --The Washington Post
Description

A mime is often thought of as a kind of pest with a painted face. Perhaps this image developed as untrained imitators of the great Marcel Marceau took to the streets and inflicted artless wordlessness on the unwilling passer-by. But here is a mime who is not like that.

Renowned mime Jaster creates a new show that's fun for the entire family. Equal parts Marcel Marceau and Charlie Chaplin, Jaster's work is a unique blend of live music played on unusual instruments, outrageous acrobatics, and physical dramatization with honest, gentle humor and playful interaction. He's sure to win over skeptics and prove that there's more to mime than meets the eye.
Audiences of all ages and backgrounds have enjoyed his kinetic humor, playful interaction, musical wit and inventive imagination. His skills in mime were developed in training with 20th-century masters Marcel Marceau and his teacher, E. Decroux, along with careful observation of Charlie Chaplin, Buster Keaton, and Harpo Marx. Jaster served as teaching assistant to Mr. Marceau in a series of seminars in Michigan, and he teaches frequently in Artist residencies, theatres, and dance programs.
He also collaborates regularly with world-class musicians like Piffaro, Celtic Harper Sue Richards, Hesperus, and Jazz Bassist, Keter Betts. In addition to annual appearances as Herr Drosselmeyer in the Maryland Youth Ballet's Nutcracker, frequent performances with the Washington Revels, and many years as a featured stage act at The Maryland Renaissance Festival, he is a proud member of The Big Apple Circus' Clown Care unit, performing at the Children's National Medical Center and Johns Hopkins University Hospital.
