Vanitas Reflects on Mortality and the Ephemeral Nature of Life
In this new play, Happenstance Theater presents three characters for your consideration. As the Queen, the Fool and the Musician play with Time, you are asked to consider the importance of imagination's role in transcending the mundane and the inevitable. Vanitas is inspired by the still-life painting genre that depicts objects symbolic of the transient nature and meaninglessness of life. In this stage production, bouquets of flowers, skulls and hourglasses are replaced by theater archetypes as Happenstance examines the Age of Discovery.
