See the greatest story ever told -- as you've never seen it told before. In this updated version of the beloved classic -- recently a hit Broadway revival -- Grammy and Oscar-winning composer and lyricist Stephen Schwartz (Wicked, Pippin, Children of Eden) uses the Gospel of Matthew and a score featuring every genre from ragtime to rock to rap to retell the story of Jesus and his disciples through a series of charming and hilarious scenes. A timeless tale of friendship, loyalty and love, Godspell has touched the hearts of countless theatergoers all over the world. Don't miss your chance to check it out in this intimate, one-of-a-kind production that aims to raise your spirit with a Tony-nominated score that features such chart-topping songs as "Day By Day," "Light of the World" and "Turn Back, O Man." Great venue, stellar cast (shout out to comic scene stealing Stephen Weston, a Simi Cultural Arts Center staple according to the program and justifiably so), and a delightfully clever show! Well worth the time and asking price. My only criticism is the volume of the horn section in the orchestra (yes, there is an orchestra in the house!) which tended to drown out some of the lyrics, especially during solo pieces, but this is nitpicking. Go see it while you can, because we could all use some feeling good. I have never seen a show in Simi (I live in Oxnard), but now I look forward to going back!
