Actors Repertory Theatre of Simi presents the classic story To Kill a Mockingbird. Based on the Pulitzer Prize-winning Southern novel by Harper Lee, this adaptation by Christopher Sergel follows the journey of Scout Finch whose father Atticus has been appointed to defend Tom Robinson, a black man framed for a crime he did not commit. As the trial progresses, Scout and her brother Jem see their community divided over issues of justice and racism. The tale compels us to take an honest look at our nation's past and our moral responsibility to each other. The production features veteran actor Don Swayze (True Blood) as Atticus Finch and former NFL player Dwight Hicks as Tom Robinson. Learn More

Description
The Simi Valley Cultural Arts Center presents the fabulous jazz legend Ernie Andrews with the North Hollywood Jazz Ensemble.
Andrews, influenced by his gospel roots, is said to have a “reach ‘em by preachin’ ” energy that communicates instantly. A Christmas Day baby born in Philadelphia, PA, Andrews early years were spent in his mother’s Baptist Church before moving in his early teens to Los Angeles.
Andrews was discovered by songwriter Joe Greene in 1947 who was so impressed that he immediately took him into the studio to record at age 17 with the result being a 300,000 seller hit, “Soothe Me” with “Wrap It Up and Put It Away” on the flip side. Andrews hasn’t looked back since. Other hits include “Make Me a Present of You” in 1953 and, in 1957 he recorded the jazz classic “Big City” with Cannonball Adderly on Capitol Records and, in 1969, he scored big with his hit record of “Bridge Over Troubled Water.”
He toured with Harry James’ Band in the US and South America for a nine-year period back in the early sixties, a time he considered to be a most valuable learning experience. Early influences include Ella Fitzgerald, Billy Eckstein, Al Hibbler, Johnny Mercer, Jimmy Rushing and “Big” Joe Turner. But his style, while influenced by these jazz greats, is said to be his very own.
