Great production, amazing wigs, and gotta love that live orchestra. This venue never fails to impress with the quality of its shows, performers, and use of a pretty small stage. Pity I can't say the same of the back row balcony seats.

Overall, this was an enjoyable show. The cast was very energetic and worked very hard. The dancing was especially terrific, with everyone in unison. Tracy and Edna were excellent and carried the show well. It would be hard not to enjoy this show.

Though a hair(spray) too long, which is no fault of this production, HAIRSPRAY is a fun musical from its opening number on. A talented and energetic cast commit 100%.

Description

What gives a girl power and punch? Is it charm, is it poise? No it’s Hairspray! Look out Simi Valley, cause “You Can’t Stop the Beat” when the hit Broadway Musical Hairspray takes center stage at the Simi Valley Cultural Arts Center.

Directed by Fred Helsel and Becky Castells

Hairspray continues to delight audiences by sweeping them away to 1960s Baltimore, where the ‘50s are out -- and change is in the air. It's 1962, and pleasantly plump Baltimore teen Tracy Turnblad has only one desire - to dance on the popular Corny Collins Show. When her dream comes true, Tracy is transformed from social outcast to sudden star, but she must use her newfound power to vanquish the reigning Teen Queen, win the affections of heartthrob Link Larkin and integrate a TV network - all without denting her 'do!

Don't miss Hairspray, Broadway’s musical-comedy phenomenon that inspired a major motion picture and won eight 2003 Tony Awards, including Best Musical.
