I'm 61, and my husband is 70. I loved it, but he's hard of hearing and didn't get to appreciate the unique beauty of the lyrics. The music is good--especially "Fucked." The lyrics for the love song about wounding and bruising are fantastic. The cast was very, very good! Very fine voices--and lots of passion in their performances. Among the little local theaters, Simi has become our favorite venue. I especially loved the performance of the woman who played all the adult roles.
Quotes & Highlights
“Enough cannot be said about Matthew Park’s musical direction, which is sensitive and, at times, heart-wrenchingly beautiful.” — Cary Ginell, Simi Valley Acorn
“The entire cast … is the congregate star of the show, so tightly integrated in song, movement and emotion that it gives the simple plot an artful boost.” — Rita Moran, Ventura County Star
It’s Germany, 1891. The beautiful young Wendla explores her body and asks her mother where babies come from. Elsewhere, the brilliant and fearless young Melchior defends his buddy Moritz — a boy so traumatized by puberty he can’t concentrate on anything. One afternoon in the woods, Wendla and Melchior discover a desire unlike anything they’ve ever felt. Spring Awakening explores the confusion and desperation that ensue when the onrushing tide of hormones meets the ignorance of children. Spring Awakening celebrates the unforgettable journey from youth to adulthood with a power, poignancy, and passion that you will never forget._
