Winners of "Best Burlesque" in 2011 from both The Boston Phoenix and The Weekly Dig, the Boston Babydolls return for the Valentine season with their romantic burlesque Unlucky in Love. It's the story of a hapless writer examining episodes from his own life as he tries to pen a self-help guide to romance. Unfortunately for him (but fortunately for the audience), what he doesn't know could fill a book. Calamities of the heart have never been so funny -- or sexy -- as they are in this burlesque story of love and misfortune. Audiences will enjoy two hours of teasing, pleasing, romance, magic and live music with lush vocals courtesy of The Amorettes.

The Lonesome West: The Dark Irish Comedy From Tir Na Theatre

Full Price:
$28.00
Our Price:
$14.00

The Lonesome West, by the award-winning playwright Martin McDonagh (The Lieutenant of Inishmore), is a violent black comedy of brotherly love set amongst the belligerent neighbors of the Western Ireland town of Leenane, which is fast becoming the murder capital of the world. An idealistic young priest stumbles into a simmering conflict between brothers Coleman and Valene Connor as they enact an endless cycle of petty grudges. Father Welsh eventually puts his life on the line in an attempt to reconcile the feuding siblings. Nominated for the Tony Award for Best Play, The Lonesome West concludes McDonagh's Leenane trilogy. We really enjoyed the show! The theater is small so it is important to get there early to get the best seats... We will definitely be interested in seeing another show in the future!!!

It's apparent these women enjoy performing and are confident entertaining almost nude. The show was light and funny, there is no story line to speak of. The venue was not particularly pleasant; a basement theatre with general seating. Although we originally had chosen good seats we were told to move to accomodate a large group of drunken latecomers. I was surprised the show was sold out. I'd guess the theatre holds about 150 people. *Be forwarned* The bar takes an upfront 20% tip regardless. So $2.50 tip for a bottle of beer and a plastic glass of cheap wine; pretty nervy IMHO. The bar also suggests you "pre-order" for intermission, however, I was so turned off with their tip policy I refused spend another dime with them. (Those fools; they would have made $4 in tips instead of $2.50) The customer should decide an appropriate tip, not the server! I would not return to this venue. But the Women performers did a great job...you GO GIRLS!

We enjoyed the first half of the show very much. Then the drunk and her crew came in. The theater is quite small. Our section had the most available seats so they stumbled over to us. They were loud, rude, talkative and spilled drinks. There was no usher or any sort of attempt by the theater to stop this obvious and really obnoxious behavior. It is a shame because they ruined the experience for our entire section and even yelled back at the actors?!? Obviously it has been a while since they have been let out of the house.
The drinks were good and reasonably priced. The performers were very good. It was a unique and fun show. Had I known the second half would have been so disrupted I would have opted for an evening elsewhere.

Boston Babydolls Bulesque is not what I was expecting. I went in thinking I would get a decent show for the price and a nice evening out with friends. However, that was not the case as there were only two good dancers on the show and the remaining had one that was too old, another was emaciated/ skinny to the point her bones were showing and lastly horrible expressions were exhibited from one of the dancers throughout the dance.

I say skip the show and watch via DVD Burlesque. Although, the two that were good were great dancers and performed well throughout, so my final verdict would be that it was okay.....

Description

This Valentine season give your special honey more than a box of chocolate. A performance by New England's leading burlesque troupe is a saucy gift of love. The lineup includes both veterans of the established troupe and some new members. Regular attendees of Boston Babydolls shows are familiar with Miss Mina, the "classy lassie with the sassy chassis," and Betty Blaize, the six-foot-tall glamorous Amazon who combines burlesque traditions with showgirl aesthetics. Newer members include the classically trained Devora Darling, the energetic Evie Sphinx, and the newest member of the troupe: the curvaceous Brigitte Bisoux. Each Boston Babydoll brings her own special flavor of sassy sweetness to the stage.

This show contains sexual themes.
