Set during the rural economic slowdown of the 1970s, playwright Sam Shepard's universally acclaimed Buried Child resonates as strongly today as it did when it launched Shepard's career in 1978. A Pulitzer winner for drama, Buried Child makes for a fierce, forceful and unforgettable portrayal of the realities of the American Dream. The realistic masterpiece mixes comedy and drama, keen commentary and deep emotion in a squalid farm home occupied by a clan filled with suppressed violence, apparent unhappiness and dark secrets. Kenneth Kelleher directs this San Jose Stage Company production. Learn More

we went to the fremont a couple of years ago for ray bradbury's christmas performance. we really enjoyed both the short play's and ray bradbury's "talk" during the second half of the evening.Written on Dec 07 2009
this year the play was entertaining-however we were quite disappointed with the "second half". mr bradbury was left on stage in his wheelchair for quite a while-no introduction-no one up there with him for about 15 minutes. he looked uncomfortable-we felt very uncomfortable-it was a rather sad. it is no reflection on mr bradbury-seeing and listening to him reminisce is always a treat. perhaps the fremont theater staff will be more organized and take better care for the next performance

Wonderful event. We were really glad we were able to get tickets to the show and see Ray Bradbury in person on stage. He is still very funny. The play was great too, as was the little magic show before and the announcers of the theater.Written on Dec 21 2009
The theater is very small, but made for an intimate setting which I like. We were in the third row, making us just over 5 feet away from the performers.

Our party of 8 including 3 six graders really enjoyed this performance.Written on Dec 13 2009
The choreography((STEVE JOSEPHSON) was excellent along the dance solo with ANTHONY SCARANO . All the dancers were engaging along with the fantastic direction and production.
Fun costuming set the correct mood
One of the best all round pieces of theatre art I have seen on such a small stage.
While the orchestrated pre- recorded music sounded a little dated, all the vocals performances spot on. DAVID STONEMAN gave a superb performance of Mr. Marionette along with LISA MORRICE and ROB HARRYMAN. A shame to not have live musicians (piano, violin) to accompany these wonderfully trained singers.
We went in the hope of seeing the great Ray Bradbury and enjoyed his introduction and talk before the musical. Afterward Mr. Bradbury signed our students books and we were a little disappointed that he did not say a nary word to these young people with their stacks of well loved Bradbury books. Only a grunt! The newly signed books will become coveted treasurer’s along with the knowledge of experiencing one of the premiere performances of MERRY CHRISTMAS 2116 in the company of the great RAY BRADBURY. Don’t miss it!

More Information About Ray Bradbury's Merry Christmas 2116
Description
In “Ray Bradbury’s Merry Christmas 2116,” an aging couple approaching the 40th anniversary of their married lives together each decide to give their spouse a present. As coincidence would have it, Mr. Wycherly and Mrs. Wycherly each separately approach a maker of realistic, lifelike robots, called marionettes although they have no strings. Mr. Wycherly requests that Mr. Marionette manufacture a highly customized younger, more vital version of himself to please Mrs. Wycherly. The Missus, for her part, asks the robot-maker to fashion a young, hot, sassy, saucy version of herself for her Mister. When the new marionettes are each delivered to their designated recipients, the fun really begins.
This musical was first conceived fifty years ago for two Bradbury friends, the husband and wife team of Charles Laughton and Elsa Lanchester, with director James Whale attached. With Whale’s sudden death, the project was set aside.
Now, with a brand new musical score, “Ray Bradbury’s Merry Christmas 2116” will be shown to theatre audiences, including his legions of fans. Book and lyrics are by Ray Bradbury.
John Hoke composes the music. A longtime session musician and singer in Los Angeles, Nashville, New York and London, Hoke has written music for commercials and for television. He has toured North America and Europe extensively with the John Stewart Band, and has recorded his own album, “Fortunato,” for Homecoming Records.
Steve Josephson directs. He has previously written, developed and directed the musicals “Some Summer Night” (winner, New American Musical Writers Festival, New York) and “Tea & Crumpets” (Best New Musical, SF Bay Area Theatre Critics).
The cast of “Ray Bradbury’s Merry Christmas 2116” includes David Stoneman, Rob Harryman, Lisa Morrice, Jessie McLean, Steve Josephson, Samantha Marcella, Christine Reese and Anthony Scarano.
