Props to Pops: Dr. John's Tribute to Louis Armstrong

Full Price:
$31.00
Our Price:
$19.00

It's going to be a jazz explosion on the Hollywood Bowl stage when New Orleans pianist Dr. John pays loving tribute to New Orleans' most famous son, the great Satchmo. From "Mack the Knife," "When the Saints" and "Wonderful World" to his other lesser-known but seminal works, Dr. John and friends bring Pops' world to life with gritty, swamp-style grooves and some unexpected renditions. Plenty of special guests will be on hand to help put on a great show in honor of the legendary Armstrong, including The Blind Boys of Alabama, Dee Dee Bridgewater, Telmary Diaz, Anthony Hamilton, Terence Blanchard, Arturo Sandoval and many more. Bring cash! You can use a card, but there's no machine, so it takes time.

In St. Paul you don't have to feed the meters after 4:30pm. Wish it was that way in Mpls.

This was the first time I've been to an event such as this. Very casual environment and you never know what you'll get. I will say the way the program is set up the 2nd half is not appropriate for children. Eyes were opened to acts that I would have never gone to see on a normal basis. Even the house band The Smarts were wonderful to listen to - very talented group of guys. Was given a ballot to vote on the best group for the evening. This also included a space to request more information about a group you may have really liked. Prizes were given away and everyone got a goodie bag one their way out the door. Had a great time.

Sample Night Live had an interesting mix of acts, some so-so and some very good. It was a fun evening because of the variety of talent. The show moves along quickly, so if you don't care for an act, you're not stuck with it for very long. The good acts certainly make you want to attend their upcoming shows. Picking up tickets was easy. The entertainment in the lobby before the show made the wait for the doors to open go quickly. I went with a group of 8 and everyone enjoyed the show.

Fantastic in every way! Even the acts I didn't find all that interesting were professional and practiced. And the artist painting on stage throughout Act 1 was astonishing. Seriously, seeing a painting evolve and react to each act was so cool! We will definitely return and spread the word about this awesome opportunity to experience a wide range of local talent.
