Of all the great female stars to emerge from Australia -- Olivia-Newton John, Kylie Minogue, Nicole Kidman -- none can hold a candle to the rhinestone-studded awesomeness of Dame Edna Everage, the planet's reigning (and only) "gigastar." Modestly described as "probably the most gifted and talented woman in the world today," Dame Edna has circled the globe dispensing sage advice to her beloved "possums." Originally a character created by performer Barry Humphries, the sharply comedic Edna lives on in this flawless impression by Michael Walters who has donned the "wisteria" coif and sparkly glasses since 2001. With the blessing of Humphries, Walters presents this housewife, investigative journalist, social anthropologist, talk show host, swami, children's book illustrator, spin doctor, etc. etc. in all her hilarious sharped-tongue glory at The Cabaret Theater at CAMP Bar. The performance was done with great energy and passion. It would be hard not enjoy the play. The actor's use of props and staging was entertaining in itself since the space is limited for the actor. Each high and low that the actor took the audience through was believeable as you could feel the struggle or the humor. Unfortunately, the performance area for the audience was awful. There is a hugh pillar in the middle of the small room and the seating was not arranged in any manner to afford a view for the audience further back than 10 feet. The accoustics of the room were lacking too. Even though the many words of the actor were executed well, it took great effort to hear them as they bounced off the many walls and competed with the back door opening and closing as patrons and employees went in and out for a smoke.
