Based on the enduring 1905 novel by Frances Hodgson Burnett (author of The Secret Garden), this musical adaptation of A Little Princess centers around Sara Crewe, a precocious young girl who's left at the mercy of a cruel headmistress after her father mysteriously disappears while searching for Timbuktu. Though made to work as a servant in a boarding school, Sara finds within herself the heart of a princess in this song-filled adaptation, designed to delight adults and kids alike. The musical was written by Brian Crawley and Tony-nominated composer Andrew Lippa (Big Fish, The Addams Family), and is presented by the Sunnyvale Community Players in a junior production comprised entirely of talented young performers between the ages of eight and 18. You may remember the adaptation of this play which became the famous Hitchcock movie by the same name. The wealthy Margot Wendice has convinced her professional tennis player husband to give up playing to spend more time with her. However, since Tony Wendice has married his wife for her money, he decides to do away with her for exactly the same reason! Revenge and avarice lead him to plot the perfect murder, but things do not turn out exactly as he plans; when his scheme goes disastrously wrong, he finds himself in a suspenseful game of cat and mouse to stay one step ahead of a determined police detective and a suspicious mystery writer from Margot’s past who is out to uncover the truth!
