The California Theatre Center presents The Women, Clare Booth Luce's wickedly venomous comedy about 1930s Manhattan socialites who, for pure sport, urge each other into self-destruction. Having no other occupation or purpose, the women manipulate each other to create gossip-column fodder for their own entertainment. The Women contains razor-sharp dialogue and social commentary particular to its time, but its themes -- marriage and divorce, socio-economic class, female friendship, standards of beauty and the role of women in society -- remain relevant today. (Real Housewives, anyone?) A cast of CTC alumnae return to star in this fast-paced revival. Learn More

Doing a period piece is extra challenging but the cast and direction rose to the occasion and created a wonderful evening of theater.
The two leading men in particular stand out for their superb portrayal of 18th century dandies. But this is not meant to in any way belittle the female performances that were also a delight.
Well done the whole team for such a great effort.
