Based on the enduring 1905 novel by Frances Hodgson Burnett (author of The Secret Garden), this musical adaptation of A Little Princess centers around Sara Crewe, a precocious young girl who's left at the mercy of a cruel headmistress after her father mysteriously disappears while searching for Timbuktu. Though made to work as a servant in a boarding school, Sara finds within herself the heart of a princess in this song-filled adaptation, designed to delight adults and kids alike. The musical was written by Brian Crawley and Tony-nominated composer Andrew Lippa (Big Fish, The Addams Family), and is presented by the Sunnyvale Community Players in a junior production comprised entirely of talented young performers between the ages of eight and 18. A slice of sheer entertainment, this production restored my faith in SCP. Entertaining for the whole family, this cast of 6 certainly has the acting and vocal chops to delight even the most jaded theatre snob. Tomas Theriot as Snoopy and Karyn Rondeau Anthony Kirby Harline, or whatever that broad is going by now, as Sally, sparkle plenty.

This crowd pleasing musical brings America’s favorite cartoon characters to life. The lessons Charlie Brown and the Peanuts gang learn are as important today as they were when they were first drawn by Charles M. Schulz. Songs such as My Blanket and Me, The Kite, The Book Report, Suppertime and Happiness will surely leave the audience dancing in the aisles.
