At Wit's End Brings Composer Oscar Levant Back to Life
Oscar Levant was a colorful gem of the American entertainment world of the mid-1900s. The pianist, composer, author, comedian and actor was as beloved for his caustic observations as for his music. He composed for more than 20 films, wrote radio music, appeared on popular radio and TV game shows, and hosted his own talk show on which he interviewed such big-name guests as Fred Astaire and Linus Pauling. Very open about his many neuroses and hypochondria, Levant's headstone is said by some to be inscribed, "I told them I was ill." Now Chuck Muckle brings Mr. Levant, as he was called, back to vivid life in a rollicking one-man musical full of heartfelt comedy.
