Hundreds of composers vied to win Arizona Pro Arte's "Call for Scores" competition, flooding the group with new compositions from around the globe. Now, in Apotheosis of the Dance, the forward-thinking musical ensemble will play Beethoven and two revolutionary pieces by this year's contest winners, Aharon Harlap and Michael-Thomas Foumai. In addition to conducting Beethoven's Symphony No. 7 (called the "apotheosis of the dance" by none other than Richard Wagner), maestro Timothy Verville will lead the APA through Harlap's Sinfonia Breve with live dance accompaniment from the AZ Pro Arte Dance Ensemble. The dancers will also accompany the performance of The Divine Comedy, Foumai's winning composition. Please see the event description for more information about these two world-class composers and contest winners. Learn More

As usual, the setting was beautiful, free, easy parking, very welcoming..you can even take in a beverage. What we hadn't realized was that it was assigned seating..we are used to general seating and everyone getting their own tickets..I guess we will have to go back to one person getting the tickets so that we can sit together or using Goldstar's method of doing that. The music was heavenly, the conductor explains everything and is a job to watch, and how wonderful to hear the husband and wife team singing Mahler in German, with gestures, plus having the translation in front of us. just too bad that not many people stayed for the discussion and heard the romantic story of how the couple met. An excellent evening!
