Named one of Time magazine's 10 best plays of 2011, Chinglish is the latest theatrical work from David Henry Hwang, the Tony and Obie Award-winning writer of M. Butterfly. This culture-clash comedy of mistranslation and manners tells the comedic story of a Midwestern American businessman who's trying to conduct an important deal in a bustling Chinese province. He quickly learns just how much he doesn't comprehend: his translators are unreliable, his consultant may be a fraud, and he is captivated by Xu, a beautiful, seemingly supportive government official whom he has trouble understanding. Enjoyable play. Several funny and unexpected moments. Actors are very good. The venue was a little ugly since it was in a church gymnasium with folding chairs, kind of like a high school play. However, this didn't bother me and I thoroughly enjoyed the play.
About the Ticket Supplier: Mask & Mirror Community Theatre
Established in March 2011 by a group of actors who had worked together in community theatres in Washington County, Mask & Mirror Community Theatre of Tigard and Tualatin has had different focus than many other companies in the area.
Mask & Mirror is an unusual community theatre group. Our goal is to develop a core of fully-involved members who come together regularly to create wonderful productions and activities in the southwest suburban area of Portland; specifically the communities of Tigard and Tualatin.
