Moscow Ballet's Great Russian Nutcracker returns to the glorious Wiltern for the holiday season, and all the wonder and beauty of this stunning production are back as well: the gorgeous Swarovski crystal-laden costumes, life-sized matrushka dolls, 10-foot-tall silk puppets and a special "Dove of Peace" formation, where two dancers become one bird with a 20-foot wingspan. This is your chance to see the award-winning principal dancers and corps de ballet perform Olympic-worthy leaps, lifts and pirouettes as they tell the heartwarming tale of Masha meeting her prince. This splendid production, a magical treat for all, is a time-honored holiday story that comes to life to the brilliant score of Peter Tchaikovsky with uplifting surprises and exciting new twists. Unique to Charles Maple’s The Nutcracker, as performed by South Bay Ballet, is the presentation of Clara as a young girl who dreams of becoming a ballerina. In her dream Clara grows up and dances with her Nutcracker Prince in a performance at the Kingdom of the Sweets. It’s this new conception – ballet about ballet and the passion to dance – that sets this Nutcracker apart from others.
