Gibson Amphitheatre welcomes Mexican music star Ana Gabriel to the stage. Gabriel first started performing at age 6, singing Josa Alfredo Jimanez's "Regalo A Dios." In 1977 she moved to Tijuana and recorded her first song, "Comprendeme" -- while also studying accounting. Her first smash hit, in 1988, was "Simplemente Amigos" from the album Tierra De Nadie. Her trademark raspy voice brings power and sensuality to her repertoire, which varies from traditional mariachi to pop, and her songs have charted consistently since she began cutting albums, including almost yearly during the 1990s. Ramiro Burr of the Houston Chronicle called her "far and away the top female ranchera singer in Mexico." Popular from Latin America to Europe, Gabriel has performed with such diverse musical stars as opera singer Placido Domingo, pop star Jon Secada, and the ranchera king himself, Vicente Fernandez.
