Die Fledermaus is an opera of merriment, revenge, and mistaken identities. Falke was humiliated by his friend Eisenstein, who left him stranded in the middle of town in a bat costume, where he became a joke. Now he's planned a ball to be the setting for his revenge. Chaos ensues and everyone ends up in prison, where they must resolve the situation. A free mask and festive decor (and the $2 champagne) help immerse audience members in the experience.

Theatergoers are also welcome to take advantage The Center’s new pre-show dining option at Scrementi’s, 3760 Chicago Road, Steger, Ill. This option offers patrons the opportunity to enjoy a delicious pre-fixe menu that includes salad, beef, pasta, chicken, coffee and dessert for $25 per person. Advance reservations are required. The Center’s presentation of “Die Fledermaus” is generously supported by Arts Midwest.

“Die Fledermaus,” is an operetta about a married couple in 19th-century Vienna, by the name of Rosalinde and Gabriel von Eisenstein. Both are invited to a masquerade ball for the Prince, and despite his jail sentence for a civil offense, Mr. Eisenstein embarks for the palace, masked and ready to flirt. Rosalinde and lover Alfred are caught romping in the home when Warden Frank comes to arrest Eisenstein. Alfred disguises himself as Eisenstein and is arrested, to cover the affair. The plot thickens as Eisenstein drunkenly stumbles from the ball to the prison to begin his sentence, only to find someone in his cell. Fortunately, the mistaken identities all get resolved in the end.

“Die Fledermaus” stars Mario Nikolov as Gabriel Von Eisenstein (tenor), Edelina Kaneava/Valentina Korchakova as Rosalinde (soprano), Pavel Horacek as Frank (baritone), Viara Zhelezova as Prince Orlofsky (mezzo-soprano), Orlin Goranov as Alfred (tenor), Hristo Sarafov as Dr. Falke (baritone), Jiri Kubik as Dr. Blinde (tenor), Snejana Dramcheva as Adele (soprano), Svetomira Gitsova as Ida (soprano) and Gueorgui Dinev as Frosch (actor). The production is directed by Teatro Lirico D’Europa’s artistic director Giorgio Lalov, and features musical direction by Krassimir Topolov and set, costume and lighting design by Martin Otava.
