Stephen Sondheim's chilling musical masterpiece of murderous "barber-ism" and culinary crime comes to the outdoor stage at the Moonlight Amphitheatre. Set in 19th century London, Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street recounts the infamous tale of a hair-cutter unjustly accused of a crime and exiled from the city. He returns after 15 long years to seek revenge against those who wronged him. Caught up in the greedy schemes of his bloodthirsty landlady Mrs. Lovett, his murderous rage soon expands to include his unfortunate customers. A tale of retribution and obsession, Sweeney Todd serves up deliciously macabre portions of gruesome humor, sinister spite and suspicious meat pies. This Tony Award-winning musical first hit the Broadway stage in 1979 and was adapted into a 2007 film version by Tim Burton.

By the Way, Meet Vera Stark: Sly Satire Skewers Hollywood Racism

Full Price:
$43.00 - $55.00
Our Price:
$21.50 - $27.50

Set in Hollywood over a 70-year period, Pulitzer Prize winner Lynn Nottage's pseudo-biographical comedy By the Way, Meet Vera Stark follows the life of a headstrong African-American actress who begins a career in the 1930s, at a time when her only shot at success lay in stealing small scenes in big Hollywood blockbusters. Seventy years later, film buffs reflect on the life and legacy of the controversial star, whose eventual fame and fortune came at the price of perpetuating dangerous stereotypes. Nottage artfully blends comedy and social commentary for a thoroughly entertaining yet thought-provoking picture of the cultural climate that shaped Vera Stark. Clever and illuminating, this show draws on screwball films of the 1930s and uses today's fascination with celebrity and controversy to get to the truth behind the legend, and reflect on who she might have been if she'd lived in a different time. Awesome! Performances were amazing and equivalent to anything you would see on Broadway.
And the Moonlight Amphitheatre was the perfect backdrop.

The production was just wonderful. The acting, singing, scenery - all were great. My complaint would be with the venue. Sitting outdoors under the stars is really nice but when employees (off in the distance) are talking and laughing with each other, it is really annoying and makes it more difficult to concentrate on the show. They probably don't realize how much their voices carry when in an outdoor venue. This is the second time we have had this same problem. Others noticed it too.
