We enjoyed our tour quite a bit. Gaining perspective on what it would be like to live when there was no electricity was very interesting. The tour guides and staff were pleasant and knowledgeable. Although our tour guide seemed to lack a little confidence and several people made comments that seemed to rattle her a bit. Also, visiting the interior of this house is probably best reserved for very well behaved children (and adults) as there are many areas that are no touch/no step, etc.Written on Nov 14 2011

The house and property are beautiful, and we felt very welcomed on the tour. The guides were very knowledgeable, and we learned a lot about life in the 1800's. Be aware there is a fair amount of stair-climbing involved, but well-worth the effort!Written on May 07 2012

the tour guide was very informative, but the lights were on dimly in some areas, not so dimly in others and the shutters were closed on all the windows, so you didn't get the affect of the moonlight. There were candle lit lanterns on the walkway/driveway going in and that set the mood, but was not carried inside. Didn't really need a flashlight at all.Written on Mar 13 2012

More Information About Gore Place: A Full Moon Tour
Website

Description
Led by a guide in period clothing, the Full Moon Tour offers a fascinating glimpse into the working life of early Americans along with views of the sumptuously furnished rooms of the 1806 country seat of 7th Massachusetts Governor and U.S. Senator Christopher Gore and his wife Rebecca Amory Payne Gore.
Why is it called a Full Moon Tour? These tours take place each month on an evening near the full moon. Though varied in theme, each Full Moon Tour includes views of the principle rooms of the mansion and offers a glimpse into the fascinating world of the Gores. Built in 1806, the mansion at Gore Place is considered by many to be the finest example of Federal period architecture in New England.
June 1, 2012: What the Butler Said: Life With Servants
Imagine what it would be like to live in a house full of servants! The Gores did and those servants included Robert Roberts, author of the House Servant's Directory. Much of the information for this tour came straight out of Roberts' book. As head butler at Gore Place in the mid 1820s, Roberts offers a firsthand view of what life was like here at that time.
July 6, 2012: Indepedence Day
You'll enjoy views of several beautifully furnished rooms including the soaring circular staircase, Great Hall, Oval Withdrawing Room, Library, Billiards Room and living quarters while hearing stories of the men and women who declared independence from Great Britain. This is a great way to continue your Independence Day celebrations!
