When he opens it and finds a ticket for a Chinese laundry in London, his curiosity compels him to redeem the ticket leading him to another clue that sends him around the world on a global quest to track down the book's original borrower in Underneath the Lintel. Played by Paul Morella, the Librarian uncovers a mystery that seems to transcend the ages, but are the results due to investigation or madness? This was a wonderful show. I am biased since the composer of the music was a long time friend who tragically died in 2006. This was a world premier of a project he'd been working on. The story is a tragicomedy dealing with a very realistic disfunctional family where the widowed matriarch is beginning to suffer from senility. Her spinster daughter is her caregivver and the rest of her children, two other daughters and her son plus two grandchildren and a son-in-law come to her home for "A Family Reunion." As an opera nearly every word of dialog is sung. The onstage orchestra consists of a string quintet plus piano. If this is ever staged again I will be sure to see it again and I strongly recomend it.
