Alpha Blondy: African Reggae Star & His Band Solar System
The reggae superstar out of Africa's Ivory Coast hits the Howard, touring behind his newly-released 16th studio disc, the rootsy Mystic Power. Born Seydou Koné, Alpha Blondy broke through in a big way in the early '80s with a trio of albums -- Jah Glory!, Cocody Rock! and Apartheid Is Naziism -- that included hit title songs, along with best-sellers like "Brigadier Sabari," a satire on police brutality. His politically and socially-progressive lyrics struck a chord on the continent, where he became known as "the Bob Marley of Africa." The multilingual singer and Grammy nominee still remains active, recording and touring across the globe, and is also a noted humanitarian, having been named a UN Ambassador of Peace in 2005.

We went on a Sunday afternoon. I had not been in that part of DC on the weekend in a long time. There are a lot of places to eat on 14th and U Streets You can find 2 hour parking in the communities in the area. Lots of people were out that evening shopping and eating.Youn Sun Nah & Ulf Wakenius Duo dining • Sep 15 2014 star this tip starred
