Just on a whim, I got tickets to see Carolyn Wonderland at Howard Theater last night. I read she was from Austin and sang the Texas blues but had never heard of her. I expected a Bonnie Raitt type performer. Well, we were sitting at the table before the show (they had tables everywhere like Birchmere) and a lone woman joined us. She said that she couldn't talk any of her friends into coming, but that she has seen Carolyn before and would not miss it for the world - said we were in for a treat, it'll be like seeing Jimi Hendrix. I'm like, yeah, yeah, well that's good. Nothing prepared me for Ms Wonderland's performance. I have never seen anything like it in my life!! She is the perfect mixture of Jimi Hendrix (yes), Janis Joplin, Gov Mule, and Grateful Dead with a bit of Bonnie Raitt thrown in. A pure rockin out, stellar, all out performance on every song! And she could play the guitar like I've never seen, also lap steel and even at one point trumpet. And she has a great, humble-type wry personality. A purely perfect performer in every possible way. That she isn't known nationally is shocking. It gives me faith that there are other amazing artists out there that never make it to the national level but are so much better than those who do!! GO SEE CAROLYN WONDERLAND you will not be disappointed and will likely sit in mesmerized amazement at her talent as this audience did.

As the first time we saw her, she was phenomenal! I honestly don't understand why she isn't well known given her level of talent! Perfect combination of Janis Joplin lungs and Jimi Hendrix guitar chops! Will keep telling everyone I know about...continued
