Beethoven called it "too wild and terrible." The mysterious circumstances surrounding its frenzied composition are legendary. Now Mozart's Requiem kicks off the Washington Bach Consort's new season with internationally acclaimed guest artist soprano Sherezade Panthaki. As the story goes, Mozart was commissioned to write this haunting piece by an Austrian nobleman. With his health declining, Mozart raced to finish the work, coming to believe he was composing a requiem for himself. Ultimately, he died before he was able to complete it, but the score he left captures Mozart at the height of his creative and dramatic powers, pouring all of his knowledge and expertise into the work. Also on the program is the motet Exsultate, jubilate. Come early for a pre-concert lecture by Dr. Michael Marissen, and stay after the performance for a reception with the artists. Learn More
