Talk about your merry and bright -- the charm-filled Christmas musical that broke box office records on Broadway is coming to town. Based on the hit 2003 movie starring Will Ferrell, this funny and heartfelt show follows the pointy-shoed footsteps of William "Buddy" Hobbs, who was raised as an elf in Santa's workshop and grows up -- and up, and up -- before finally discovering that he's actually human. So Santa sends Buddy on a quest to meet his human family, where it turns out the happy-go-lucky guy has to help them -- and the whole city of New York -- remember the true meaning of the season. I can't help but think that the posters for this show make it look more exciting than it is. I also can't help but think that I saw the same exact show at Busch Gardens last summer minus the Christmas stuff (which is possible since the director does work for theme parks sometimes). With that said I still enjoyed the show. I liked the part with Father Christmas and the little girl. At times she looked unreal like an acrobatic doll. I also liked the part with the bells where the chef guy interacts with the audience. It was too funny. Finally, we all enjoyed the quick change artists. Being up in the second tier you'd think you would see some of how they do this act. But no, it is still a mystery as to how they can change so quickly. I definitely think I got my money's worth but I wouldn't have paid full price for this show and I would have sat closer.
